Winning in their own style – team USA

WMF Women’s World Cup 2021 gave space for 8 teams to present their abilities in a professional sense, a skill that inspires, and a display of games that raises adrenaline up. Day by day teams were winning and losing, but one that got to the top revealed that investment of all the possible resources creates champion teams.

Mr. Craig Rhodis, on behalf of the USA team, told us about their expectations prior to the Cup, and about their performance assessment.

“We are very satisfied with the outcome of the WMF women’s World Cup in 2021. We knew we had a strong group, but exceeded our expectations.

I think the fact that our team had a very strong background in small-sided (futsal and arena soccer) helped tremendously. We also had 5-6 players who have played together in the past, which helped. Ultimately, I think the largest advantage was our team's ability to play the style we wanted to play.  High press, high tempo, lots of movement, etc...  Not every player can play this style, not every player will buy into this style, so that was a major advantage. We would like to improve on our ability to break down teams that defend us in a low block. When we played against teams that made us break them down and defended very deep, we struggled and the pace of the game slowed down. We also need to get better at set-pieces.”

And about the future, the tactics go like this: “For now, we will focus on building our domestic arena football league. The stronger this league is, the better our players will be, which will make our mini football teams better.”

This all might mean that the international level requires strong national background, good management, and support. The recipe is known and we wish all the teams experience the triumphant excitement at least once.

Again, congratulations, and may we enjoy USA style again and again during the WMF global events.
