7 a side tournament first time sanctioned by WMF
During the meeting of the WMF Executive Committee held on 17th of December 2019, and in-between the WMF World Cup 2019 and New Year’s Resolutions that almost everyone is actively making – Guatemala got the “tiara”: hosting 7 a side tournament sanctioned by WMF in 2020.
Information about this is at hand.
Mr. Pablo Melgar (President of ASOFUM) willingly shared the excitement:
“Yes, we will host the first 7v7 tournament sanctioned by WMF. We are very excited to propose to develop this modality for the world federation.
The F7 World Championship Guatemala 2020 will take place in Guatemala (the city we will announce it in January 2020), from November 10th to November 15th.
We are expecting to receive 16 top 7v7 national teams from around the world (Guatemala included). Coming from our recent tournament reference (PAN AM CUP 2018 and from we learn a lot from it), we are focusing to host a top-level of 7v7 competition, well-organized event and tourism experience for our visitors. Guatemala has a lot of tourist locations to offer.
The host city will adapt 3 stadiums for the competition with the objective of bringing the best show in 7v7 world to the local people as well as a fan fest in the central park. We want everybody to see every game in the tournament.
Livestreaming will be available for the world to watch the best 7v7 event on the planet.”
Lots of promises and even more to expect! There are only 11 months left to prepare the spectacle.
